 About JIAS JIAS Montreal is a “one-stop” service and resource centre that offers a wide variety of services, all free of charge. A skilled team of counselors behind you! Our Immigration counselors offer paralegal counselling to facilitate the legal entry of Jewish individuals and their families into Canada. They offer information on immigration procedures, evaluation of profiles for permanent-residency status, assistance in completing immigration forms and mediation with government agencies, if needed. We work to assist families who wish to bring their relatives to Quebec and we support refugee claimants who wish to stay here. Our highly trained team of Settlement counsellors works with clients during their first three years in Quebec. The counsellors assist new arrivals with their immediate physical needs while providing short and long-term orientation, crisis intervention, planning for French and/or English language skills acquisition and information on collateral services, including referrals to other community groups and government agencies.They act as cultural brokers by playing a key role in the newcomers’ cultural transition process. The Integration Department makes programs available to clients within their first five years in Canada. It provides them with opportunities to gain the knowledge, skills and resources they need to succeed in their new surroundings. Programs include language training, information and orientation sessions on various aspects of life in Montreal and cultural and educational outings. One of the most popular programs matches newcomers with local families giving the newcomers the opportunity to make new friends and develop a greater sense of belonging to their new community.
